Kurzweil 3000 "LearnStation", Ver 10.0, for Win

Description: Kurzweil Learn Station presents the original image, with color graphics, photographs, and columns intact, while reading the text aloud. Documents can also be opened, edited, and saved in Microsoft Word format. The program offers a suite of learning tools, including syllabification, pronounciation, text preview, thesaurus, phonetic spelling, and a dictionary. Users can choose from a variety of output voices, and can speed up or slow the pace and replay any word or phrase at will. The user may also select from continuous, self-paced, or word-by-word reading modes. The program also enables users to take notes, add them to the document, and read, print, and review them. As a test-taking program, this software allows teachers to accommodate students' Individualized Education Plan (IEP) needs for visual and auditory accommodations. With this program, you have access to word prediction within the program itself, but must copy and paste what you write into other programs. This version will ONLY read previously scanned documents or other electronic documents. The software can read documents in PDF, HTML, And DAISY file formats. A Mac version is also available.

Product Review - what is this?

What is a Product Review? A Product Review is a way for you to share your experiences with a product. Your comments may be helpful to others who want to borrow the same device. The focus of the Product Review is on the device you borrowed and how it did - or did not - work for you (or a person with a disability on whose behalf you borrowed the device).

Do not use the Product Review as an opportunity to evaluate the services of the Lending Library! (For example, if you had problems with the device because the Lending Library did not send all the parts, address that directly with the Lending Library during the loan period or mention your problems when you complete the Satisfaction Questionnaire you will receive several weeks after the loan period.)

How do I submit a Product Review? On the description page of every product there is a link that says "I'd like to submit a Review". Once you click on the link, you will be directed to a short form where you can type in and submit your review. Please note: Each product review will be read and approved before it is posted.

Why do you require contact and other information when a Product Review is submitted? Your name and email address provide a way for us to contact you if we have any questions about your review, and is for internal use ONLY. This information will not be made public. We thought it would be helpful to individuals perusing the product reviews to understand the reviewer's relationship to the user of the product, and this will be included when your review is posted.

What should I include in my Product Review? When writing a product review it might be helpful to provide the following information:

  1. Why did you borrow the product?
  2. How well did the product meet your needs?
  3. Are there specific features of the product that you liked or didn't like?
  4. Is there anything else about the product's performance that you would like to add?

EXAMPLES:
I borrowed the reacher kit because my mother is trying to learn how to do things with one hand. She just had a stroke. The reachers did not work for her because she also has arthritis and she doesn't have the strength in her hands and shoulders to hold and manipulate the reachers.

I need text-to-speech software because I can't use my hands to type for long periods of time without pain anymore. I found Dragon is much better now than the versions I have tried before. It was easier to "train" the computer to recognize my voice. There still are some problems with the voice file when I use it when I am tired at the end of the day.

Disclaimer: All product reviews are solely the opinion of the person submitting the review and may be based upon his/her experiences (including the reviewer's training with this device and other AT) rather than any inherent short-comings of the device. Reviews do not reflect the opinion of the Institute on Disabilities, Temple University, or the PA Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, and no endorsement is implied.

I'd like to borrow this device - add it to my "loan cart"  (What is this?)

I just need a blank loan request form
